Making the Most of the Heatwave in North Norfolk

I love North Norfolk during the summer; it’s even more beautiful when the sun is shining! While the current heat is the perfect excuse to join the coast in all its glory, it’s also important to take a few sensible precautions to stay safe in the heat.
If you’re staying with us during the heatwave, here are our tips for enjoying your holiday while keeping cool.

1. Start your day early
The ideal time to explore during a heatwave is before 11am, as this is usually the coolest part of the day. Me and my pup, Reggie, usually like to head down to Cromer Beach (just 18 minutes away from escape2norfolk) for an early morning paddle or a fresh coastal walk. Not only can you make the most of the fresh sea air, but you’ll also avoid the busiest crowds.

2. Stay hydrated
Although it sounds obvious, staying hydrated is easy to forget when you’re busy enjoying your holiday. Carry a reusable water bottle wherever you go and drink regularly! If you’re planning on spending a day at the beach, freezing a bottle of water overnight gives you ice-cold water for much longer.
My top tip is stocking up on produce from our many local markets, like strawberries and oranges. This is great for keeping you hydrated! Visit our social media for a list of my favourite farmers markets near our cottages.

3. Plan around the hottest hours
The sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm. Rather than being out in the heat, this is the perfect time to enjoy a long lunch at one of our fantastic local pubs, visit a café for an ice cream or a cold drink or relax in your cottage with a good book! After all, holidays are for slowing down.

4. Don’t forget your four-legged friends
While our cottages are both dog-friendly, hot pavements and sand are not! Please check the pavement temperature with your hand before walking your dogs or stick to grass or shaded woodlands. Pigneys Wood and Broadland Country Park provide excellent tree cover and are located within a short drive from our cottages.
It’s best to swap daytime walks for early morning adventures or evening strolls once the sun has gone down. Dogs can’t cool themselves as efficiently as people, so even a short walk in 30°C+ heat can become dangerous.

5. Enjoy Norfolk at its best!
This heatwave is the perfect excuse to slow down and enjoy everything Norfolk has to offer. There truly is nowhere better to spend a warm summer break! A little bit of caution and planning will help you stay cool, safe and make memories that last long after the temperatures have dropped.
We hope our guests enjoy the sunshine!
