The Best Picnic Spots in Norfolk

There's something wonderfully simple about packing a picnic, heading out into the Norfolk countryside and finding the perfect spot to relax! Whether you're planning a romantic afternoon, a family day out or simply want to enjoy the sunshine with local treats, you'll be spoilt for choice around Banningham.

Here are some of my favourite picnic spots, all within easy reach of your escape2norfolk cottage…

Blickling Estate (9 minutes)

Blickling Estate is one of Norfolk's most beautiful National Trust properties, and one of my favourite places for a dog walk. Spread out beneath centuries-old trees, find a quiet corner overlooking the lake or enjoy one of the many picnic benches dotted throughout the estate. After lunch, explore miles of walking trails, beautiful formal gardens or browse the bookshop and café. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic, with designated picnic areas and plenty of open green space available.

Felbrigg Estate (18 minutes)

If woodland walks are more your style, Felbrigg Estate offers the perfect setting. There are plenty of shaded picnic spots, making it the perfect place to hide from the recent heatwave. Also, the peaceful lakeside views make it an idyllic place to spend a summer afternoon. There are benches throughout the estate, or simply lay out a blanket beneath one of the ancient oak trees before heading off to explore the surrounding trails.

Holt Country Park (26 minutes)

Escape into nature at Holt Country Park, where towering pine trees, winding woodland paths and open glades create a peaceful backdrop for a picnic. It's an excellent choice for families, with plenty of space for children to explore while adults relax amongst the trees.

Blickling Lake (9 minutes)

For a quieter alternative within the estate, take the walk around Blickling Lake. There are several scenic spots along the water's edge where you can pause for lunch while watching ducks glide across the lake.

Sheringham Park (24 minutes)

With sweeping views across the countryside towards the coast, Sheringham Park is one of Norfolk's hidden treasures. Bring a blanket, choose a grassy viewpoint and enjoy lunch surrounded by colourful gardens and woodland.

Pack Local Produce

One of the joys of a Norfolk picnic is filling your basket with local treats. Pick up fresh bread, artisan cheeses, homemade sausage rolls, strawberries and sweet treats from nearby farm shops and delicatessens before setting off for the day.
